Photo Essay 2
The subject of these photos is the lake and the contrast between a sunny day and a rainy day. I took this photos in a friend's backyard.
I chose this place because I have always loved the water. These photos are important to me because the water always has a way of calming me down and giving me a place to clear my head. I always feel very at ease around the water. The concept I'm trying to portray in these photos are that there are good days, and there are bad days. These photos were taken on two separate days. One day, it was pouring rain and it was freezing cold. On the second day, it was warm and sunny with a nice breeze. These photos tell a story because they go from the dull, dark, rainy day and the muted colors of those photos to the bright and warm photos of the sunny day. Both sets of the photos convey a feeling of sadness or depression to a feeling of relief and the ability to breathe again. The order of my pictures is to transition from the dark and muted colors of the rain to the bright and vibrant colors of the sunny day. The angle of my photos were not intentionally, they were simply to create intriguing photos. These photos are visually unified by the water. The water is present in every photo but it is moving differently and presented differently in every photo. This makes the set consistent but each photo is unique in it's own way.

Letter Forms
The word I created was my name (Emily). The way I created these photos was with a Polaroid camera. I found them within the camera. I modified them in photoshop by putting them into black and white. The letter that is most interesting and has an unexpected composition is the letter I. It is the viewfinder on the Polaroid. This is unexpected because you have to look at it for awhile to figure out exactly what it is. What unifies my letter form is the fact that they were all found in the same camera. Changing the letters to black and white also unifies the photos. If I were to do this assignment again, I would probably spell the word Everlong (it's one of my favorite Foo Fighters song :+) ). A place that would unify the letterform would be in a music shop or at a concert. This would tie together the music aspect of the letterform and provide opportunities to create interesting and unexpected letterforms.
